Tech Tips to Avoid Employment Scams

Online employment scams are on the rise, and scammers often target people looking for remote-work positions or freelance opportunities. Confluence Health wants to help job seekers avoid scams by following these tech tips:

  • Research the Company: Verify the legitimacy of the employer or client by doing some online research and reading reviews. Cross-check job postings on the company's official website and contact them directly to confirm the position. For example, the best way to apply for jobs at Confluence Health is to use our official website: https://careers.confluencehealth.org/careers-home.

  • Check the Email Details: Always review the email address being used by someone who claims to represent a particular company. For example, any email coming from Confluence Health will always end with @confluencehealth.org and nothing else (such as jobs@confluencehealth.org).

  • Be Wary of Unsolicited Offers: It’s okay to be skeptical of out-of-the-blue job offers or messages that you receive via social media, email or text messages (especially if you didn't initiate the communication and have never heard of the company before). Be cautious, and be careful.

  • Don't Pay Upfront: Never pay for a job or training without verifying the legitimacy of the opportunity. For example, Confluence Health will never send you a check to cash for equipment or programs.

  • Use Reputable Platforms: Strick to well-known freelance platforms or job boards, and be cautious of unverified listings.

  • Protect Personal Information: Don't share your personal information unless you are certain it is necessary and legitimate.

  • Use Secure Communication Channels: Communicate using secure and professional channels, and avoid using personal email for initial contacts. For example, Confluence Health typically contacts remote workers before setting up an initial interview (and we don't use the Zoom platform for those interviews).

Remember, if an opportunity seems too good to be true, it probably is. Always prioritize caution, and verify the legitimacy of online work opportunities.
